DIY foil pie pan topiary

April 2, 2012

Sometimes people’s craftiness amazes me.  Now, I like to consider myself a crafty gal, but sometimes I see something that just blows me away.  Like this foil pie pan topiary.

I saw this and right away was in awe.  Something as simple as pie pans transformed into a beautiful centerpiece?! I mean… WOW!  I wish I could take the credit for this awesome diy topiary, but all the credit must go to Paper, Plate, and Plane.

Isn’t this just lovely?

All you need is:

a. 30 of 9″ pie pans and 50 of 4″ pie pans.

b. Hot glue gun and glue sticks (I used up a pack of 16 glue sticks).

c. Balloon, strips of newspaper, and some white glue or papier maché paste.

d. Paint and paint brush.

If you are interested in making a pie pan topiary (or ten) visit Paper, Plate, and Plane’s terrific tutorial.  They make it look pretty easy and dontcha think these would make lovely diy wedding centerpieces?  They are fantastic.

Hmm… thinking I might need one in my dining room.  I wonder what it would look like with a coat of spray paint.  I do love this cold aluminum look but it doesn’t really go with my decor.  Thinking some paint would be an easy way to get this to color coordinate with any  palette.

Okay, I’m adding this to my project list!  When I recreate this little gem, you know I’ll post pics!!!  And if you decide to try, send yours my way!

Book planters

February 23, 2012

I’m not sure if it’s my obsession with DIY projects or my adoration for books, possibly a mixture of the two, but I am LOVIN’ this planter idea!

Wouldn’t this book planter look freakin adorable as a centerpiece?  So homey and charming.   Now these might not work for an extravagant black tie event, but they would be perfect for a vintagey, DIY type wedding.

Aren’t they fantastic…

Can-tastic Ideas

January 26, 2012

One of my girlfriends is getting married in May and asked if I’d start saving my tin cans.  She wants them to tie onto the back of her “getaway car”.  OKAY, not really.  She doesn’t have a getaway car but she does have a BUS!  That’s right, a big yellow cheese bus.  It will transport us to and from the wedding and hotels and she wants cans on it.  LOTS and LOTS of cans.

So, needless to say…  I’ve been busy rinsing and de-labeling cans for the past few months.  Well, now I have quite the collection. In fact, I think I have hoarded enough cans to attach to an entire fleet of busses.  Which got me thinking… what else could we use the cans for?

As it turns out there are about a thousand and ten ways tin cans could be used at weddings!  And if you really think about it…. they’re ecofriendly AND cost efficient,  which makes tin cans a perfect decor idea!  Just look at what they could be turned into…..

INVITATIONS!!  That’s right, you heard me, invitations!!!!  How cool would it be to mail these babies out?  The cans above were mailed out with invitation inside, along with directions on how to tie them to the couple’s car at the wedding.  If you’re not really into the cold metal look, you could dress the can up however you’d like.  Use the photos below for inspiration.

And these don’t just work for weddings.  They could be awesome shower, birthday, or bachelorette invites.  OHHHHH or you could fill them with goodies and hand them out as favors.    Head on over to Our Best Bites for their awesome can filling tutorial and to see how they turned their cans into a fantastic little gift.  I promise you’ll love it and want to make your own STAT!  I know I can’t wait to try!!!

Tin can table numbers. AWESOME.  I like how the inside is colored so the numbers really pop.  You can click here for the tutorial.

Another table number idea.  Use the tin can as a base and stick the number inside. You could recreate this in so many ways!

Tin can vases.  DUH so simple!  I love the vintage-y look of them.  You could wrap them with burlap, lace, ribbon, yarn… just about anything, depending on the look you are going for.

Notice the tin can centerpieces have been sprayed.  It’s an easy way to give them a face lift.  And I’m loving the silverware holders.  Again… SOOOOOO simple!

This is one of my faves.  Very vintage!  Pretty up your tin cans with wallpaper, fabric, wrapping paper or scrapbook paper.
If you can find vintage cans, they look absolutely charming as-is!
Tin can favors are an option too.  I’m totally diggin’ these plants but you could fill with whatever you’d like.
If you are having an evening event these tin can lanterns would be lovely. Sprinkle them around the venue or hang them from trees. Visit Craft Gossip for a tutorial.
This is totally worth collecting cans for.  How absolutely amazing is this hanging display?  It’s a show stopper if you ask me.  L.O.V.E!!
Have any of you used or plan to use tin cans at your wedding?  How?  And do you have any tips or photos you’d like to share with us??

Aren’t they purty? I’m going to run right to the craft store on Friday to get the makings for these bad boys because I love them so much. I’m thinking a little stagger action with different sized jars will do the trick. Whaddya think?

Finny & Zook

August 29, 2011

Who says bold graphic prints with nursery rhyme phrases are for kids? Not me, not when they look as adorable as these prints by Finny and Zook.

I could spend hours sifting through this adorable little Etsy shop, but I already have my work cut out deciding which prints I want to order. How cute would some of these be as wedding decor, centerpieces or even wedding favors?

Rock your Socks!

July 21, 2011

Do you ever wonder where your missing socks go?  Why is it that when you put a pair in the laundry sometimes only one survives?   Actually, I know where mine go, my dryer eats them.  It’s like it has a vendetta, knows which socks are my faves and saves its appetite just for them.  Soooo, what to do with my beloved odd balls?

Since I’m a hoarder collector crafter, I can’t bear to throw them out…. and now, I don’t have to!!!  I found some cute sock decor ideas that would be perfect for parties, showers, weddings, or in my case, around the house.

Which is your fave?

These sock centerpieces by Rachael Ray are my favorite.  How awesome, right?  They’d be great at any garden party or wedding.  Oohh… wouldn’t they be super sweet favors?  I love how original they are and how much personality they have.  I can’t wait to try these… my window sill is begging for some!!

I always say it but it’s true… you can make a wreath out of ANYTHING!!!  I think this sock wreath is so much fun and could dress up any party space.

Be sure to check out the amazingly easy tutorial at  Blue Cricket Design.

I found these funky chair socks over at The Knot.  What an adorable way to dress up your reception chairs.   You can purchase your own set for about $20 at Charles & Marie.   OOOrrr… you could save some money and make your own.

The incredible edible… WEDDING??

July 20, 2011

I wish I had a green thumb.  One of my dearest friends is a horticulturist and I envy her gardening skills.  She has the most fabulous flowers, tastiest tomatoes, and prettiest peppers around.  I LOVE eating over when she cooks, especially in late summer because her menu consists of the freshest and most beautiful ingredients.  That’s right… BEAUTIFUL!!

Have you ever noticed how lovely fruits and veggies actually are?  I think they are gorgeous, which got me thinking…. wouldn’t a garden wedding be pretty.  Now, I don’t mean “held in a garden” I mean “designed from the garden”.  A wedding consisting of  fruits, veggies, herbs & spices!  It’s a delicious idea, dontcha think??

Let’s get started with some AMAZING food bouquets by Green Wedding Shoes.

purple artichoke bouquet

What a gorgeous bouquet of baby purple artichokes, green ranunculuses, green & purple wheat, a green moss flower (Dianthus Green Ball) and some seed pods.

carrot and asparagus bouquet

Isn’t this carrot bouquet lovely?  It’s a mix of orange/purple carrots, dark purple kale, green wheat, dianthus green ball and a sun star flower.

This kale bouquet is soooo simple but I LOVE it.

Aren’t the colors in this veggie bouquet gorgeous?  I spy carrots, mushrooms, onions, radishes, ginger and what I’m pretty sure are garlic cloves.  AND perhaps my favorite part, the stem made of silver spoons.  Oooo… and how cute is that carrot boutonniere?  via Delightully Engaged

SssWHEAT Centerpieces

July 12, 2011

Back in November I had posted a Wheat is Sweet post and ever since I’ve been hooked on the rustic wispy stalks.  Recently, I had gotten a request for more wheat centerpiece ideas.  This came from Christine, a bride-to-be who is marrying in September, who is still looking for centerpiece inspiration.  She is looking for something “wheat-y” that also incorporates greenery.

Well Christine, I love the idea of  wheat for your September wedding.  Very autumnal!  I scoured high and low and here is what I found for you.  I hope it inspires!

Happy planning… and please be sure to send us some pics!! xx

This centerpiece is made of wheat, wildflowers and rosemary.  via The Knot

This wheat centerpiece is a combination of  wheat, cotton tails, curly willow, dried brown eucalyptus and bittersweet berries.  The vase filled with coffee beans and acorns really complete the look.  I’m not 100% sold on that ribbon though and think that some burlap or raffia would be a better wrap option.  via Weddingbee

Wheat accompanied with long grasses is perfect for an early fall wedding.  via Wedding Flowers and Reception Ideas

The couple’s florist created half of the centerpieces using fall elements, including wheat stalks, cattails, berries, and greenery. The arrangements were set at the tables and surrounded with soft votive candles.

I love the simplicity of this centerpiece idea and the moss at the bottom of the pot gives it some color.  You could also coordinate the ribbon with your color palette.  via The Finer Things
