Your wedding is SEW chic

May 15, 2012

Are you one of those people who made their own prom dress? The girl I stop on the street with the awesome purse who says “Oh, yeah, I made it” – as in, “Oh yes, are you referring to my gorgeous hobo-yet-chic-and-totally-casual-yet-still-trendy, customized, HANDMADE bag that I forgot I was wearing because I own 25 others like it that I crafted myself?” If that’s you then, well, I’m not ashamed to say it: I want to be you.

For some, sewing may seem a dying art, but for those who love a good handmade item (hellooo etsy), sewing is the lifeblood that keeps this industry alive.

And so, this post is an ode to you trendy sew-ers out there. Whatever your material of choice – needle and thread, yarn, hemp…hey, you’re an artist, you do what you want…I hope you enjoy these “sew inspired” nuptial expressions!

I could go on forever with these sewing details, but alas, all good things must come to an end.

FriDIY: String Heart

May 11, 2012

Looking for an amazing reception piece?  Something to WoW  your guests with?  Something that can be turned into magnificent home decor after the wedding?  Well then look NO further!

Here’s what you’ve been looking for.  Check out this DIY String Heart from Green Wedding Shoes…..

DIY string heart art

Are you done ohhing and ahhing?

NO?

Keep ogling then.

……….

If you are finished, check out the material list needed to recreate this masterpiece.

Materials:

• piece of wood – the bigger the more dramatic!
• string –  used here was the pink neon thin rope you can find at Home Depot, but you could use any yarn or string
• box of nails (if want a nail with a decent head so the string won’t pop off)
• spray paint to paint the wood
• white paper to draw the heart on

Apparently you could make this for about $35.  Much less if you already have a piece of wood lying around!!

To see the tutorial click here.  It’s a MUST SEE!!!  And if you can’t think of anywhere to place a heart this large, a smaller one would be awesome too!  OR you could try writing your initials, OR table numbers, OR  a reception sign.

What would YOU make??

FriDIY: Receipt Paper Streamers

April 27, 2012

I’m a sucker for streamers.  There is just something about their whimsiness that I adore!

They are a simple way to add drama and elegance to a room, outdoor space, or venue.  Not to mention there are about a thousand different ways you can “streamer”!

You could use ribbon, crepe paper, fabric,  or even receipt paper.  YEP, THAT’S RIGHT… RECEIPT PAPER!  I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it, but as soon as I ran into this DIY receipt paper streamer idea over at Hostess with the Mostess, it seemed so obvious.  Why wouldn’t you use receipt paper to decorate?  It’s just the right size, shape and length!

I am in LOVE with the look of these DIY streamers.  Don’t they resemble lace?  I think they would add a delicate charm to any wedding, shower or event.

Whatdya think? ….

If you are diggin’ this idea as much as I am, visit Hostess with the Mostess for the great little tutorial by Anastasia Turkov of Walnut and Main. (Anastasia, I think you ROCK!!!) You may think this one photo is tutorial enough, but there are a few tips & tricks that would make this streamer project much, much easier.  Stop on by HWTM to see what I mean.

The many faces of BEER at a wedding

April 24, 2012

When the weather gets chilly and rainy – especially at the end of April – sometimes a gal just needs a little BEER to keep her warm! Which brings me to my next point: how fun would it be to put on a beer-inspired wedding…in only the classiest way, of course.

The beer-loving couple will for sure have plenty of delicious brews on tap, but why not spread the theme of brightly colored bottles, rustic breweries, and fresh outdoor beer gardens to all of your reception decor and details? From one beer-loving lady to another, here’s a delicious look at how some other creative brides and grooms have pulled this one off.

Taped table numbers?

March 26, 2012

I’ve heard of books on tape – but tape on books?

NO, seriously… you heard me right!  Tape on books!

When I came across this over at OnceWed I thought “DUH, why didn’t I think of that?’  This table number idea rocks my socks.  It’s simple, extremely inexpensive, and a DIY all wrapped up into one.  IT’S LIKE HEAVEN!

I’m loving these DIY book table numbers for vintage inspired weddings and think they are so charming!  All you need is some romantically titled books, colored tape, pastel pencil and an Xacto knife.

If you have those, you could have THIS….

To see the fantastic step by step tutorial hurry on over to OnceWed.

And ya know what… even if you don’t need table numbers, you could write letters on the books and spell out anything you like.  Your last name maybe?  A sweet ‘welcome’ for your guests?  Or even just a sweet little heart shape!

What would your books be taped with??

Pool decor

February 28, 2012

A little while back, while dreaming of warmer weather and outdoor events, I posted about Plexi-glass pool covers.  I’m getting that summer itch again so figured I’d share a few more ideas on how to pretty up a pool.  Today’s ideas are more cost efficient and fabulous options for you gals having poolside affairs.

Wether you’re having an outdoor wedding, shower or hosting an engagement party, if there is a pool nearby you should dress it up.

Just check out these pool decor ideas….

Book details

February 24, 2012

Yesterday I posted DIY book planters (If you missed them, click here).  Today, I figured I’d stick with the book theme and show you this clever idea….

I’m not sure what you’d call this exactly… reading ribbon? Possibly, but whatever it is, I think it’s pretty cute.  ESPECIALLY if your using books as decor.

You could switch the look up with different types of ribbon or by the book pages you use.   You could string up quotes, or poems.  Use vintagey pages or brand new black and white.  Take pages from kids books or even write something yourself.

I think this is a whimsical idea thats half playful, half quirky.  It adds interest and would be a detail guests would absolutely remember.

What do you think? Is this somethink you would do?  Where would you hang your reading ribbon??

Book planters

February 23, 2012

I’m not sure if it’s my obsession with DIY projects or my adoration for books, possibly a mixture of the two, but I am LOVIN’ this planter idea!

Wouldn’t this book planter look freakin adorable as a centerpiece?  So homey and charming.   Now these might not work for an extravagant black tie event, but they would be perfect for a vintagey, DIY type wedding.

Aren’t they fantastic…

Yarn?

February 21, 2012

This weekend I was rummaging in my craft room and realized…. I am up to my eyeballs in yarn.  Like waaaaayy too many balls. Crazy amounts of loose strands.  Enough to make me bonkers.

Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that I have plenty of supply. When I have no idea what to do with it… well, that’s when I begin to twitch.  So before I even found my glue gun I jumped online to see what, when I’m ready, I could do with it.

Ahhh Ha!  I found some darling yarn ideas!!!   Ideas that wouldn’t just be perfect to free up some space in my crap craft room but that I thought perfect for YOU too!!

Here are some fantastic yarn decor ideas that could be easily crafted for any affair.  They’d be sweet at a bridal shower, beautiful at a wedding or make great homemade gifts.

Whatdya think?…..

Wouldn’t this yarn block make a cute wedding  favor or table decor?  Love the simplicity of the sweet little heart and how cheap it would be to recreate.  via it’s a bride’s life

Another adorable yarn idea!  This DIY project is super simple.  Bend some wire into any word, monogram, or shape you’d like, then wrap with yarn.  I think it’s just perfect sitting like this (even with the excess hanging off) but would also be a fab DIY cake topper, table number or cute Mr and Mrs chair hang.  What would you do with it?  via Attention 2 Detail

Okay, one last idea.  Yarn letters.  Write your last name, greet guests with a “welcome” or  write out anything you think would add to the decor.  I love the mismatch yarn and how each letter is not pristinely wrapped.  via Budget Savvy Bride
