Sweet Sw-EAT Summer

May 16, 2012

Suuuuuum-mer… where AAAAAARRE you????

Okay, I know it’s coming…. but can’t it get here any quicker?  I’m usually very patient, but these past few days it’s all I can think about.

Because I am yearning for warm weather and sun-kissed skin, I figured I could try to get a little taste of the sweet season by posting about it.  Well, not the SEASON itself per say, but the deliciousness that comes with it!

Just look at these delectable summer desserts.  They aren’t  just tasty, but adorable too. The presentation is key.  The following would be perfect to serve at a summer wedding, shower, or even a pool party!

Whatd’ya think?

TuesDIY: Cupcake wrappers

April 17, 2012

I don’t know about you but I’m a sucker for cupcakes.  Not only are they perfectly proportioned but I think they are uber cute and so much fun to decorate!  I love to ice them, sprinkle them with something pretty, tell them how charming they are.  WAIT.  WHAT?

BUT NOW… after seeing this DIY cupcake idea,  not only do I want to ice and decorate cupcakes, I want to dress them up too.  That’s right, I said it!  I want to play dress up with my cupcakes!!  And I bet after seeing today’s post, you just might wanna too! :)

I usually use cute cupcake wrappers to “dress” my cupcake. I choose ones to match the holiday, party theme or mood I’m in.  Well, not anymore.  I’m thinkin my new thing’ll be to personalize my cupcakes with these DIY cupcake wrappers.  Seriously…Aren’t they AH-dorable!  WAY TOO CUTE to not attempt at least once!

I came across this awesome idea at A Darling Day. Just look how simple and sweet it is…

LOVE LOVE LOVE the stamped words on these.  And these wrappers would be great on muffins too.

So whatdya think?  How would you decorate yours?  With stamped letters like these?  Scrapbook paper maybe?

gimme some sugar

March 6, 2012

Ya know, I say it all the time but it really IS the little details that take a wedding (or any event you throw) to the next level!

Like these adorable DIY heart sugar cubes.  I mean, seriously…. if you saw these at a coffee station or were served some with your tea wouldn’t you be smitten?

heart red and white sugar cube

Pardon the pun, but aren’t these sweet?  And not only are they super cute but they are so easy to make.

To DIY your own sugar cubes,  just take some food coloring and paint on hearts with a thin brush.  The color will bleed a bit but after a few you’ll get the hang of it.

via Intimate Weddings

If you’d like a cleaner look you could use icing and a thin piping tip.

For a slightly different look, make heart-shaped sugar.  I love how these are colored but think they’d be just as cute white.

If you want to try this sweet little DIY check out the tutorial at Natalie Spencer’s tutorial.  It’s really much simpler than you’d think!

Delicious Ideas

March 1, 2012

Sure, cake is the traditional wedding dessert but who says you need to serve JUST cake?  Wouldn’t a dessert display like this be a fabulous addition to your reception?

via eco-Beautiful Weddings

A sweet table is something to be considered.  It’s a nice option for guests who’d rather not eat cake.  OKAY, I don’t really know anyone who wouldn’t want cake… but it’d be nice to have other sweets to snack on too.

If you are thinking you’d like a dessert table but are worried about cost, it could be done rather cheaply.  If you go with a baker the price could be considerably higher than if you bake yourself or even purchase the sweets pre-made at the grocery store.  Now, I’m not talking Little Debbie cupcakes.  If you shop around I’m sure you can find some great deals on delicious baked goods.  Ask around, someone always know where to find THE best cookies or THE best pies. I  know Costco and Sam’s Club have some fabulous options!

Okay, so if you’re awesome and DO decide to have a dessert display you can’t just throw cupcakes on a table and call it a day.  Well, ya COULD but if you do you may as well not even bother at all.  Take some extra time and plan out the LOOK of your sweet table.  Here’s a few tips on how to create an amazing display….

  • Make sure your dessert table coordinates with your wedding.  It should reflect your theme and color scheme.
  • Use a backdrop, flowers and menu cards to add interest.
  • Add some flare to desserts by dressing them up with lacy cupcake liners, ribbons, twine, or little tags.
  • Display your desserts at different heights.
  • Get creative with servers and cake stands.  Rather than a plate: for a rustic wedding try wooden crates or stumps; going retro… try records.
  • Keep the table neat and uncluttered
  • Step back and look.  Rearrange until your table is so gorgeous you can’t keep your eyes off of it!! :)

Now…. WHAT TO SERVE:

PIES (click to view our pie post)

PIES PLEASE!!!  Apple, cherry, blueberry, pecan, apple.  OH, wait, did I already mention apple?  OKAY, it’s my fave!!  There is just something charming about a pies. Dontcha think?

Cute as a button

March 23, 2011

Whenever I’m at a flea market or yard sale I find myself constantly drawn to the jars of buttons.  I think it’s the DIY slavedriver inside me that urges me to pick them up. Once they’re in my hands I just can’t put them down.  I spy about 10 in the lot that I must have.  Because I can’t leave my 10 buttons behind, I have to take the 190 others that are mingling with them.

I assume I am not the only buttonholic in the world, so today’s post is for you,  fellow button lovers.  I gathered some button inspiration for anyone looking for a cute decor idea for weddings, showers, or partys.

Alternative Wedding Bouquet - Button Bouquet

I am a sucker for untraditional wedding bouquets, something most of you already know.  This button bouquet is no exception.  How adorabley different.  via SD Wedding Insider.  If you would like to try making your own, check out M&J Trimming for a button bouquet tutorial.

This button garland I found at  Two Brunettes is cute and quirky.

I am really diggin’ this table runner.  Seems super easy to recreate and adds some unexpected charecter.  I also like the buttons simply sitting on the table, a great confetti alternative.  via Coordinately Yours
