Bathroom Door Decor

June 28, 2012

Was Pinning a few days ago and came across an ADORABLE idea for bathroom door decor!    YES… BATHROOM DOOR DECOR!

How cute would this be at a wedding?  Heck, it’d be sweet for any occasion really.  Showers, rehearsal dinners, receptions, engagement parties… You name it, and you could use this idea.

Simply find a photo of the bride & groom, mother & father, brother & sister or be funny and use you & you wearing a photo booth moustache… Any guy/girl combo would work.  The cuter/funnier, the better!

So get creative, deck the bathroom doors and surprise your guests when they go to “powder their nose” !  I guarantee once the word starts to spread of your clever door decoration, all guests will be needing to “freshen’ up” !

Seriously, who wouldn’t want to be greeted by this? …….

How to serve fast food at your wedding

June 25, 2012

So, as you know, I recently attended a wedding that was awesome. They had lottery ticket favors, a choreographed Slumdog Millionaire dance, and…wait for it…FAST FOOD. Yup, you read that right. They served mini burgers (with caramelized onions), mini hot dogs (with relish), cheese fries and onion rings (in cute paper boats), Coca-Cola in old school bottles, and – my favorite of all – mini milkshakes.

And that was just one little 50s diner-themed station during the cocktail hour. I told you this wedding was incredible.

Okay, so I know what you’re thinking: How can fast food possibly be classy? But it was! I think a big part of the appeal was the novelty factor – nobody expected to get fast food at a wedding, and it just so happened that I was starving and majorly craving a burger. But also, the way they served it was so adorably charming that you almost forgot you were eating gourmet McDonald’s…except for the fact that it tasted so darn delicious!

This got me thinking: what other fun and creative ways have couples developed to make their favorite comfort foods wedding-appropriate? Well, here you have it…a small sampling of some beloved fast foods, classed-up and ready to serve at your reception – or for a midnight snack!!

A little taste of Bollywood

June 21, 2012

Last week I told you about the Matri-Money lottery favor I got at my friend’s wedding in NJ, and as I mentioned, that was just one of the fabulous little details the bride and groom pulled into their big day.

The next best surprise? The choreographed Bollywood Jai Ho dance from Slumdog Millionaire, performed by the extremely coordinated and perfectly in sync bridal party. Unfortunately, I was totally enjoying the moment and neglected to take a video with my phone, but apparently this has been done before and I was able to dig up some footage of a very similar wedding routine: check it out at Here Comes the Guide

So much fun, right?! Choreographed wedding dances have been on the rise for the last several years, but this is the first time I’ve seen one in person. My thoughts? It was super entertaining to watch and ALSO got everyone pumped to hop on the dance floor. A win-win all around, in my opinion!

How do you feel about choreographed wedding dances? Are you planning to incorporate one into your reception? Will you include the whole bridal party, or just you and your brave hubby?

Matri-Money: cute favor alert!

June 14, 2012

Last weekend I attended a wedding down in Jersey for two of my boyfriend’s college friends, and let me tell you  it was a Libby James dream. Each and every aspect was so thought out, from the out-of-town guest gift bags to the ice cream sundae station to the after-dinner drinks bar (not loving that so much the next day).  I was so impressed by all the little details the couple incorporated to make the day special and memorable for everyone!

More on that in future posts, but for now I am super excited to share the couple’s awesome wedding favor idea: scratch tickets! Maybe the lottery favor is old news, but it’s the first time I’ve come across it and I just LOVE this idea. Not only is it easy on the wallet, but it also gives your guests the chance to win some cash while they help you celebrate! Can’t hate that.

Here’s a pic of the ticket that was sitting at each place setting. Clearly this ticket has already been scratched off (and is NOT remotely a winner), but before I took a coin to mine, it was delicately wrapped in a tiny glassine (wax paper-y) envelope and accompanied by a single penny (for scratching). Understated yet fun, and it provided entertainment as we waited for the bridal party to be announced.

NJ just happens to sell a scratch ticket called “MatriMoney” which is very convenient for the wedding favor purpose, but in my opinion any type of scratch-off lotto ticket would work. Anyway, the ticket costs $1, the glassine envelopes are as low as $5 for 100, and the penny…well, that’s obvious. Ticket + Envelope + Penny = $1.06 per guest = not a bad deal for a pretty stellar favor!

Have you seen the scratch ticket favor before, or any other variations on it? What do you think?!

Your wedding day is not only a special moment in your life; it also marks the culmination of love and support from family and friends leading up to that wonderful point. I love the idea of honoring those cherished bonds and loving influences by showcasing a collection of family/friend photos at the reception.

A picture display lets your guests reminisce about the special part they’ve played in your lives, helping to bring you and your future hubby together in some way, directly or indirectly. This lovely decorative detail doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive – in fact, mismatched frames can be completely charming, giving the display a homey, authentic feel.

Some couples also display wedding photos from other beloved family members – parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. I love the way this idea connects the older family guests to the celebration, and it’ll certainly lead to some entertaining conversation starters!

FriDIY: String Heart

May 11, 2012

Looking for an amazing reception piece?  Something to WoW  your guests with?  Something that can be turned into magnificent home decor after the wedding?  Well then look NO further!

Here’s what you’ve been looking for.  Check out this DIY String Heart from Green Wedding Shoes…..

DIY string heart art

Are you done ohhing and ahhing?

NO?

Keep ogling then.

……….

If you are finished, check out the material list needed to recreate this masterpiece.

Materials:

• piece of wood – the bigger the more dramatic!
• string –  used here was the pink neon thin rope you can find at Home Depot, but you could use any yarn or string
• box of nails (if want a nail with a decent head so the string won’t pop off)
• spray paint to paint the wood
• white paper to draw the heart on

Apparently you could make this for about $35.  Much less if you already have a piece of wood lying around!!

To see the tutorial click here.  It’s a MUST SEE!!!  And if you can’t think of anywhere to place a heart this large, a smaller one would be awesome too!  OR you could try writing your initials, OR table numbers, OR  a reception sign.

What would YOU make??

Photo Album Guest Book

May 10, 2012

AH…The wedding guest book.  It greets each and every guest at the reception, yet it often gets placed at the bottom of the to-do list.  It gets filled with well wishes and words of love from family and friends, yet is often overlooked as a detail of importance.  It’s one of the only details from the actual wedding day that can be enjoyed years later, yet the poor under-appreciated guest book still commonly falls under the radar.

Well, not today Libsters!  Today it gets the attention it deserves.

Lately I’ve been seeing the “traditional,” store-bought, sign-on-the-line guest books being pushed aside for more original ideas.  One of these ideas, which I am placing in the spot light today, is the photo album guest book.

Cute, right?

Now, you know me… I wouldn’t be sharing this idea with you if it wasn’t one I loved. I think it’s a fabulous idea.  One you can personalize any way you’d like.  You can choose the color, size and even the types of photos included in the album.

Think about it.  You could show off your gorgeous engagement images.  Photos of  your childhood.  Wouldn’t it be cute to have them gradually “age” with each page.  You could include parents’ or grandparents’ wedding photos, favorite pictures from your “dating years,” your bridal party,  kids, cats, dogs, gerbils… ANYTHING really.  If you get creative and choose images meaningful to you, you just can’t lose.

So personalize a photo album today, grab some pens and you’ll be all set with a gorgeous guest book photo album that can be cherished and enjoyed forever!

Sprinkle in some color

May 8, 2012

Sprinkles. Or are they Jimmies? Where I’m from you get chocolate  jimmies and rainbow sprinkles.  Although it’s a never-ending argument debate that often arises in the Baskin Robbins line.  For the sake of today’s post I’ma call e’m SPRINKLES! But whatever YOU call them, guess what… they are NOT just for ice cream anymore! :)

Sprinkles = FUN

Delicious Ideas

March 1, 2012

Sure, cake is the traditional wedding dessert but who says you need to serve JUST cake?  Wouldn’t a dessert display like this be a fabulous addition to your reception?

via eco-Beautiful Weddings

A sweet table is something to be considered.  It’s a nice option for guests who’d rather not eat cake.  OKAY, I don’t really know anyone who wouldn’t want cake… but it’d be nice to have other sweets to snack on too.

If you are thinking you’d like a dessert table but are worried about cost, it could be done rather cheaply.  If you go with a baker the price could be considerably higher than if you bake yourself or even purchase the sweets pre-made at the grocery store.  Now, I’m not talking Little Debbie cupcakes.  If you shop around I’m sure you can find some great deals on delicious baked goods.  Ask around, someone always know where to find THE best cookies or THE best pies. I  know Costco and Sam’s Club have some fabulous options!

Okay, so if you’re awesome and DO decide to have a dessert display you can’t just throw cupcakes on a table and call it a day.  Well, ya COULD but if you do you may as well not even bother at all.  Take some extra time and plan out the LOOK of your sweet table.  Here’s a few tips on how to create an amazing display….

  • Make sure your dessert table coordinates with your wedding.  It should reflect your theme and color scheme.
  • Use a backdrop, flowers and menu cards to add interest.
  • Add some flare to desserts by dressing them up with lacy cupcake liners, ribbons, twine, or little tags.
  • Display your desserts at different heights.
  • Get creative with servers and cake stands.  Rather than a plate: for a rustic wedding try wooden crates or stumps; going retro… try records.
  • Keep the table neat and uncluttered
  • Step back and look.  Rearrange until your table is so gorgeous you can’t keep your eyes off of it!! :)

Now…. WHAT TO SERVE:

PIES (click to view our pie post)

PIES PLEASE!!!  Apple, cherry, blueberry, pecan, apple.  OH, wait, did I already mention apple?  OKAY, it’s my fave!!  There is just something charming about a pies. Dontcha think?
