FriDIY: Yarn Pom Poms

July 6, 2012

DIY projects don’t come much cheaper than this!  Odds are you have the only 2 materials you need already amongst your art supplies……  yarn and scissors.

Go grab em, and try this……

DIY: YARN POM POM BALLS

 Materials:
Yarn
Scissors

Begin wrapping yarn around your hand.  You can use something smaller or larger to wrap around, depending on the size you’d like.

 Wrap about 50 times.

 Cut

Place a piece of yarn on the table.  (It’s easiest to have these pre-cut)

Carefully slide the wound yarn off your hand and place it neatly onto the piece on the table.

Knot the piece of yarn around your bundle TIGHTLY.

Now wiggle your scissors inside the loops and cut.
Do this to both sides.
Make sure you didn’t miss any loopies.

Trim your yarn ball as you’d like.
I wanted mine a little “hairy”.  For a “neater” pom pom, trim shorter.

 Now, the fun part…. DECORATE!!!!

I strung mine as garland.  You could do this, or hang them from the ceiling.  Place them randomly around.  Add them to gift wrap, a wreath or your shoes.  Your possibilities are endless.

Let me know how yours come out!!  Have fun!!!!!!

Happy FriDIY,

♥ Heather

Tuesday Shoes-day

July 3, 2012

I’m a shoe obsessing fool!  Everywhere I go I find myself eyeing them up.  In shop windows, my BFF’s closet, on some stranger’s feet!  I can’t help it.

 I’M OBSESSED!!!!!

Sooo obsessed it’s getting slightly out of hand. They are taking over.  My fab footwear started it’s takeover in my closet but now it’s slowly claiming my entire bedroom.  As fast as I can tuck them away, they fight their way back.  I think I might have a pair too many.

As much as I ache to have those sweet summery slip ons…. I know I can’t.  I CAN’T buy another shoe!  I CAN’T buy another shoe. I CAN’T buy another shoe!

BUUUUUUT…. I CAN jazz up my collection!  As soon as I saw this amazing shoe trick my inner fashionista couldn’t stop grinning.  I think this might calm my craving (for now)!  Check it out… DIY SHOE CLIPS!!!

Aren’t these shoe clips adorable?  You’d never guess they were clip-on earrings, would you??

DIY Tissue Paper Pom-Poms

June 20, 2012

AHH… a classic, fallback DIY decoration…  my beloved Tissue Paper Pom!

He is so simple to make.  Here, I’ll show you….

 You will need:

Scissors
Tissue Paper
Pipe Cleaners

(floral wire works great too, but I already had pipe cleaners)

Layer about 10 sheets of tissue paper on a hard flat surface.

Begin making 1 inch accordian folds.

Just like in 5th grade… remember those fans we used to make?

Accordian fold until you reach the end.

Trim the ends.  It makes for a much fancier pom.  I rounded mine, you could also cut points.

Clip a piece of pipe cleaner and wrap it tightly around the middle.

 Carefully, begin seperating each layer.
Fluff.

and voila…

A pretty paper pom!

See… I told you… SIMPLE! Not to mention, one of the cheapest and most darling DIY decorations you could make. So go ahead, grab your supplies and try it!

 Happy Pom-ing,
♥ Heather

Loving Lovebirds

March 13, 2012

This past weekend I spent a little time soaking up some much-needed Vitamin D (can you say READY for spring?!). The sun was shining, the birds were chirping…which got me thinking, What better way to incorporate the outdoors into your wedding than with a couple of romantic-yet-lighthearted lovebirds? These little guys/gals are a fun touch for the nature-loving bride. Even for someone like me who doesn’t LOVE real-life birds (okay, so maybe I’ve had a few too many close encounters with dive-bombing seagulls), you can’t deny that lovebirds make some pretty adorable save the dates, invitations, RSVP cards and thank yous:

Etsy is loaded with super cute lovebird-themed invitation suites, in pretty much any color/style you could ever want…

gimme some sugar

March 6, 2012

Ya know, I say it all the time but it really IS the little details that take a wedding (or any event you throw) to the next level!

Like these adorable DIY heart sugar cubes.  I mean, seriously…. if you saw these at a coffee station or were served some with your tea wouldn’t you be smitten?

heart red and white sugar cube

Pardon the pun, but aren’t these sweet?  And not only are they super cute but they are so easy to make.

To DIY your own sugar cubes,  just take some food coloring and paint on hearts with a thin brush.  The color will bleed a bit but after a few you’ll get the hang of it.

via Intimate Weddings

If you’d like a cleaner look you could use icing and a thin piping tip.

For a slightly different look, make heart-shaped sugar.  I love how these are colored but think they’d be just as cute white.

If you want to try this sweet little DIY check out the tutorial at Natalie Spencer’s tutorial.  It’s really much simpler than you’d think!

Book details

February 24, 2012

Yesterday I posted DIY book planters (If you missed them, click here).  Today, I figured I’d stick with the book theme and show you this clever idea….

I’m not sure what you’d call this exactly… reading ribbon? Possibly, but whatever it is, I think it’s pretty cute.  ESPECIALLY if your using books as decor.

You could switch the look up with different types of ribbon or by the book pages you use.   You could string up quotes, or poems.  Use vintagey pages or brand new black and white.  Take pages from kids books or even write something yourself.

I think this is a whimsical idea thats half playful, half quirky.  It adds interest and would be a detail guests would absolutely remember.

What do you think? Is this somethink you would do?  Where would you hang your reading ribbon??

Book planters

February 23, 2012

I’m not sure if it’s my obsession with DIY projects or my adoration for books, possibly a mixture of the two, but I am LOVIN’ this planter idea!

Wouldn’t this book planter look freakin adorable as a centerpiece?  So homey and charming.   Now these might not work for an extravagant black tie event, but they would be perfect for a vintagey, DIY type wedding.

Aren’t they fantastic…

Yarn?

February 21, 2012

This weekend I was rummaging in my craft room and realized…. I am up to my eyeballs in yarn.  Like waaaaayy too many balls. Crazy amounts of loose strands.  Enough to make me bonkers.

Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that I have plenty of supply. When I have no idea what to do with it… well, that’s when I begin to twitch.  So before I even found my glue gun I jumped online to see what, when I’m ready, I could do with it.

Ahhh Ha!  I found some darling yarn ideas!!!   Ideas that wouldn’t just be perfect to free up some space in my crap craft room but that I thought perfect for YOU too!!

Here are some fantastic yarn decor ideas that could be easily crafted for any affair.  They’d be sweet at a bridal shower, beautiful at a wedding or make great homemade gifts.

Whatdya think?…..

Wouldn’t this yarn block make a cute wedding  favor or table decor?  Love the simplicity of the sweet little heart and how cheap it would be to recreate.  via it’s a bride’s life

Another adorable yarn idea!  This DIY project is super simple.  Bend some wire into any word, monogram, or shape you’d like, then wrap with yarn.  I think it’s just perfect sitting like this (even with the excess hanging off) but would also be a fab DIY cake topper, table number or cute Mr and Mrs chair hang.  What would you do with it?  via Attention 2 Detail

Okay, one last idea.  Yarn letters.  Write your last name, greet guests with a “welcome” or  write out anything you think would add to the decor.  I love the mismatch yarn and how each letter is not pristinely wrapped.  via Budget Savvy Bride

Fishtail Friday

February 17, 2012

I’m not sure about you but I think a fishtail braid is fabulous.  It puts a chic spin on a classic hairstyle and to be honest, it’s not too difficult.

Okay, okay… I have yet to master it myself but have been practicing. I’ve been using this tutorial…

via one little designer

I was thinking some of you might find this helpful.  Any brides out there trying to save some money and plan on styling their own hair on wedding day?  Well, here’s one option. Thinking a braid isn’t the route you wanna take for your wedding?  Okay, well wouldn’t it be adorable at your bridal shower?  OR possibly for your flower girl?!

Once you master the fishtail braid, you can begin playing around with different ways to wear them.  Here are a few of my faves….

SOOOoooo are there any seasoned braiders out there?  Do you have any tips or tricks on making a fantastic fishtail?  Maybe your favorite way to wear them?

I’m going to get going…. all this braiding business has me itching to try a fishtail again.  I WILL get it!  And once I do, I’ll post a pretty picture to show off my skills.  OH… and feel free to send your braid pics my way.  Not only will it give me inspiration but if I find it fabulous enough I may just share it here in Libby Land. That’d be fun right??

Chalkboard Pedestal Frame

February 16, 2012

Saw these over at Mud Pie Studio and knew I had to share them with you.  These chalkboard pedestal frames are so cute and could be used in about a thousand different ways.

Table numbers, menus, guest book signs, seating arrangements… they would be used pretty much anywhere.

So what do you think? Sure, they are simple, cost efficient and you could make them yourself…. but are they worth the trouble?

Uhm… I think YES!  If you agree check out Mud Pie Studio’s easy peasy tutorial here.  And let me know how you use them!

Happy crafting!!!!!
