Cute as a button

March 23, 2011

Whenever I’m at a flea market or yard sale I find myself constantly drawn to the jars of buttons.  I think it’s the DIY slavedriver inside me that urges me to pick them up. Once they’re in my hands I just can’t put them down.  I spy about 10 in the lot that I must have.  Because I can’t leave my 10 buttons behind, I have to take the 190 others that are mingling with them.

I assume I am not the only buttonholic in the world, so today’s post is for you,  fellow button lovers.  I gathered some button inspiration for anyone looking for a cute decor idea for weddings, showers, or partys.

Alternative Wedding Bouquet - Button Bouquet

I am a sucker for untraditional wedding bouquets, something most of you already know.  This button bouquet is no exception.  How adorabley different.  via SD Wedding Insider.  If you would like to try making your own, check out M&J Trimming for a button bouquet tutorial.

If you have a button bouquet you need a button boutonniere to match, right?  Visit My DIY Wedding Day to see how to make each of these adorable bouts.

This button garland I found at  Two Brunettes is cute and quirky.

I am really diggin’ this table runner.  Seems super easy to recreate and adds some unexpected charecter.  I also like the buttons simply sitting on the table, a great confetti alternative.  via Coordinately Yours

A cute button invitation.  This is obviously for a wedding, but could be made for any party.  You could use a heart shape or make your own button design. via Nikkabelle

If you plan to have a button wedding a cake similar to this is a must have.  via WedLoft

Button cupcake toppers… how fun!!  via CraftyStylish

I think this button table number is super cute.  You could recreate this in so many ways.  via The Knot

I love the button detail on these napkins, rings, and table runner.  Who wouldn’t want to sit down to this? via All You

The button fringe on this tablecloth is lovely isn’t it?  via Polly at Home

Button wine charms are an adorabe way to dress up your glass.  These would make fabulous party favors.  I found these on Etsy but if you’re crafty enough, you could make your own.

Another favor idea, a button heart.  These would be super cute for a wedding or shower.  via Rubbish Revamped

These button flowers would make a creative and colorful centerpiece for a spring or summer wedding.  If you want to try these definitely use the salt shaker vase, super cute!   via The Budget Savvy Bride

For a button themed wedding, this bracelet would be perfect.  This would make a great bridesmaids gift or party favor.  They don’t look too difficult to make either.  If you’re not a crafty girl you could purchase a button bracelet here: This Next.

This button heart pillow would be a great addition to an outdoor reception.  There is a tutorial at Katie’s Nesting Spot.  You could make a heart, write your name or your initials.  You could line four up and spell LOVE.  No matter what you did, a  buttonized pillow would be a cute touch at any event.

This is similar to the pillow above because you could write or customize what you’d like.   via Ginger Tea

This button wreath isn’t a Martha design but it reminds me of something fabulous that she would have hanging on her door. via Inspire Bohemia

Tea light holders are easily affordable.  Buy a bunch, add some buttons, and voila… a creative candle holder.  I love how it looks illuminated.  via i Hanna’s Blog

March 22, 2011

Summer is almost here and you know what that means…. it’s almost PIE TIME!!!  Sweet delicious decadence! Mmmmm!!!

Have my spring and summer brides considered inviting Pie to your wedding?  It would make an adorable addition to your sweet table.

What’s better than a slice of pie?  An entire pie to yourself!!  These mini pies would be a hit at any wedding or party!

This pie looks adorable sitting at this place setting. Such a darling idea.

Lovin the little flags.  If you did something like this for your wedding you could use them to incorprate your color scheme.

That bride and groom make a perect pie topper.  I love them almost as much as the initials on top!  GREAT wedding idea.

Pie jars would make perfect wedding favors.  The hearts and tags are a lovely touch.

These pie favors should be used for every picnic wedding.  I love the way they look  piled on the table.  I bet it’s hard to take just one!

Hay, please take a seat!

March 11, 2011

Hay Bales. They are earthy and country-cozy… Which is why I love them for an outdoor seating option.  Oh, did I mention they can be fairly cheap too?

Now this really depends on where you live.  Hay will be much cheaper where there is a surplus.  So if you’re a country girl, they will probably be pretty inexpensive.   My city dwellers however will most likely spend much more.  Be sure to browse around and compare your prices before purchasing or renting hay bales.  You also want to make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer.  If you don’t there is a chance your bales may be old and with age comes odor and bugs, neither of wich you want!!

So, if you are thinking about having hay bale seating for your wedding or party… I say go for it.  As long as you do your reasearch you should be fine.  And don’t worry about the hay being uncomfortable or itchy.  Throw a quilt and some pillows over the bale and you will have a cute comfortable place for your guests to sit!

These guests don’t seem to mind one bit they are sitting on hay.  Actually, I think they LOVE it!  Isn’t this a charming ceremony setup I found at The Nichols?

Isn’t this cozy? I wish I was a guest at this wedding.  I think the pairing of neutral fabric and bright flags is perfect.  The chairs in the back are a perfect option for guests who may not be as comfortable on the hay.  Thank you Green Wedding Shoes for sharing this one with us!  Be sure to check out the rest of the wedding at GWS…. SOOOO CUTE!

These bales were used as seating for the reception.  This might be much cheaper than chair rental and definitely worth considering.  found at Chez Wedd

I wouldn’t have thought to use pillows!  GREAT idea and extra comfy! found at Ultimately Plush

Although I DO adore the pillows here, I think this seating arrangement is missing drapery.  It looks a bit itchy BUT I think the seat does look comfortable because it has a back.  A bale back is a fab idea!!  found at Weddingbee

Rustic-Wedding-Seating-Hay-Bales

These accent pillows and yellow fans are adorable!  found at Elizabeth Anne Designs

This isn’t quite as rustic as most of the hay bale seating but I’m lovin’ it just the same.  The bold colors and hanging candles makes this look more contemporary than country.  found at Intimate Weddings

A hay bale lounge?!  That’s where I’d be!!  found at Food, Fun and Love

Ahh-dorable… a hay bale couch!  LOVE, love this!  Very inviting and SUPER charming!  found at Postcards and Pretties

Break away from tradition

February 23, 2011

Have you heard of a BREAK AWAY BOUQUET??  I haven’t until just recently but am soooo glad that I came across a little article on The American Wedding that gave the 411 on this bouquet toss alternative.

A break away bouquet is a bouquet that breaks apart when tossed.  A break away bouquet is made of several bouquets or single flowers loosely tied together that fall apart when thrown.  Commonly, each bouquet has a poem or saying attached making it a memorable keepsake.

I think this is a fabulous idea.  You know all the girls want to catch the bouquet so why not spread the wealth.  It would be an unexpected twist on the traditional bouquet toss.  And just look how much fun it could be…

Quilled to perfection

February 8, 2011

I was just over at Junebug Weddings and was in awe over one of their recent posts… Quilled Marriage Certificates.  As I drooled over the gorgeous images and fell in love with the idea of having a wedding certificate quilled, I knew I HAD to share the incredible concept here  in Libby Land.

** For those of you who don’t know… quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs

I just adore the idea of having a marriage certificate quilled and think it’s a wonderful way to personalize the sacred piece of paper.  The following images were quilled by the very talented Ann Martin and I found them on her blog, All Things Paper (thank you Junebug  for pointing me in her direction)!

Here is the marriage certificate Ann so beautifully quilled….

I told you… GORGEOUS!!

Ann recreated a chandelier design that was a graphic on the couple’s invitation.  Simply lovely!

The colors used came directly from the wedding’s color palette.

Here is another certificate Ann has quilled.  Completely different but just as stunning!  This one has a woodland theme.

If you didn’t want your marriage certificate quilled before, I know you do now!!  Be sure to visit Ann’s site to get more information on her quilling services.  I know she won’t disapoint!

A New England wedding

July 14, 2010

I just stumbled upon this gem of a wedding over at Green Wedding Shoes, and I absolutely love the simplicity of everything. From the bride’s gorgeous conch shell necklace to the bridal party’s cowboy boots and adorable pinwheel bouquets, Jagger Photography left no moment of this whimsical seashore wedding to the imagination. I love the photos of the clambake – how New England!

Great Holiday DIY Projects

December 22, 2009

Sorry for the lack of posting, I’ve been crafting.  Here are some of my favorite DIY projects.

Not going to lie, it takes a long time to cut out all the felt circles you need for this wreath, however assembly is so easy and the results are fabulous!   These are great for the holidays but also an inexpensive way to decorate any venue.

Check out the tutorial on Donestifluff

I love a good wreath but these were a nice change.  I think this arrangement would also look great on church doors using your wedding color for the ribbon.

Found over at I Do It Yourself

I LOVE giving pictures as gifts, found a tutorial on how to add a vintage feel.

Found over at A Modern Wedding Blog

Want your house to smell AMAZING?  My nose had a great time making this super easy potpourri.

Found over at Hip Hostess

What a great cake!  I made this for a holiday party and it was a total hit.  I used green and red ribbon around the base and found holly candies to add.

Question from a Reader

December 1, 2009

I love when I get e-mails from readers, keep them coming.  Mel sent me this e-mail and I thought it would be best answered in a post ;)

Dear Libby,
My wedding is in the spring and I am struggling to find something clever for table numbers.  I know it’s one silly detail but I want something different.  You seem to collect all things fabulous,  can you send me some links of the best ideas you have seen?
Thanks, Mel

Thanks for the e-mail Mel, here is some of the best I have seen….

Take classic pictures from the city/town and add your table numbers.

Found on Erickson Design Photostream

I have been in love with this idea since the day it came into my Google Reader.  The guest name is printed on the outside of the envelope and when they open the card they see their table number.

Found at Penned and Pretty, a GREAT source for invitation and paper ideas.

Keep it simple…and colorful.  I like this because it’s so simple but you can still see that time was spent and the detail was well thought out.

Why do we have to use numbers?  I love this idea of using musicians you and your fiancé love, nice personal touch.

Found on Once Wed

Pigeon love.  These numbers coordinate with the entire wedding invitation suite and are a great way to tie it all together.  I like matchy matchy things ;)

Yellow themed wedding…all of the table numbers were names of pretty yellow things.

Wine bottle numbers, very classic and so easy to do.  I like the color it adds to the table.  You can even tie these numbers to vases.

Found on Design Sponge
Photography by Belathee

I think this idea is a little Save by the Bell but I still love it.  Table numbers that highlight the years of your life, this would work really well for couples who have been together for years before marrying.

Found on Spamberly Photostream

This is a  great way to incorporate your pet into the wedding.

Found on CryBabyInks’s Photostream

There are only so many things you can do with engagement photos why not make them even more meaningful and get table numbers out of them?  You can get really clever with this idea and just use a blank poster board and Photoshop the numbers in.
