Flower Flavor: Glamelia

November 3, 2011

A Glamelia is a composite bouquet that was pretty popular in the 1940′s and 50′s.  It is a floral arrangement that is assembled to resemble a giant flower.  I find the Glamelia bouquet absolutely stunning and am pleased to announce it’s regaining its popularity.  I can’t help but wonder though, how it EVER fell in rank because it is just sooo so lovely…..

See, Katherine Heigl agrees. She carried one in her wedding.

Okay, I know Katherine looks gorgeous in this photo but it doesn’t quite give her bouquet justice. So here are some other examples of the show stopping flowers…..

Flower Flavor: Queen Anne’s Lace

September 29, 2011

Ya know, I wasn’t always a fan of Queen Anne’s Lace, but lately can’t keep my eyes off of it.  It’s lacey, dainty, romantic and perfect for wedding bouquets.

Before the eye candy, here’s a fun fact :

Queen Anne’s Lace, also called wild carrot, came to America from Europe,  and the carrots that we eat today were once cultivated from it.

Okay, enough education for now… Let’s look at some beautiful Queen Anne’s Lace bouquets….

Flower Flavor : Orchid

May 5, 2011

I think orchids are elegant, sexy and beautiful.  They have always drawn my attention, so it was only a matter of time before they made a Flower Flavor appearance.

Aren’t they GORGEOUS?!?!?!???

Let’s start with these fuchsia and green orchids mixed with green roses.  I LOVE this color combo and think this bouquet is a show stopper.

Blue orchids are magical.  Their hue is extroidinary and memorable.

Lime green cymbidium orchids make a lovely bouquet.  Don’t you think the pink speckled centers are ahh-mazing?

I LOVE the look of orchids submerged in water.  This is a fabulous centerpiece if you ask me.

There is really not much I can say about these cascading orchids.  They really speak for themselves.  Which is perfect because this table leaves me speechless.

Here is that pink and green combo I was diggin’ earlier.  This single orchid dresses up this napkin beautifully.  What a lovely way to greet your guests at the table.

Flower flavor – Chrysanthemum

March 10, 2011

The chrysanthemum, or “mum” for short, comes in many varieties.  It is a popular wedding flower because of it’s beauty and versatility.  Let’s take a look at some of our mum options:

 Daisy Mums

Daisy mums get their name because… well, isn’t it obvious, they look very similar to daisys.  Here is a centerpiece containing daisy mums and yellow button mums.  found at Great Expectations

Spider Mums

This beautiful bouquet is made of blue orchids, green spider mums and cream roses.  found at Signature Floral Gallery

I love when spider mums are bunched together.  They make a full, fun &  flirty bouquet. I found this one at Heather Kessler.

I found this beautiful spider mum display at Branching Out.  I love the fluffiness and texture it adds to the table.  Simply beautiful!

Football Mums aka Pompon Mums

Football mums are shaped like a ball or bursting corsage and are the largest of the mum family.  Here is a gorgeous bouquet of white football mums, purple bullet allium, purple mokara orchids, and white mini callas.  found at The Full Bouquet

Decorative Mums aka Cushion Mums

I was over at Eat Drink Pretty and ran into this  lovely Chrysanthemum arrangement.  It’s a mix of white mums and hypericum berries. Pretty!

Button Mums

I am in love with this adorable lavender and button mum boutonniere I found at Elizabeth Anne Design.  Isn’t it super cute?

These button mum wreaths are awesome.  found at Stuff for sale

These yellow button mum pomander would be perfect for dressing up a wedding.  Whether carried by bridesmaids or placed on the ends of pews, they would be a lovely touch.  found at flickr

Flower flavor : King Protea

March 3, 2011

The King protea (pro-TEE-a) is the national flower of South Africa and definitely a dramatic floral. I have yet to see it in person, but when I see the bold beauty in wedding photos, I am always in awe.  You know me, I LOVE untraditional, therefore, I love this flower!  It’s one of those flowers that will keep guests talking because it’s unexpected and oh-so charming.  If you are looking for a “did you see her bouquet?” reaction…. definitely consider the King protea.

The King protea is a large flower so it will be the centerpiece of any bouquet.  The flowers you pair it with will be what sets your King protea bouquet apart from the rest.  I’m diggin’ the twigs and berries in this bouquet.  Very vintage.

found at Paper Olive

Protea bouquet

Here is a smaller King protea bouquet.  The soft pink roses and ribbon wrapped stem makes this a more romantic option.

found at Country Club Flowers

In this bouquet, the King protea stands alone.  Dressed in a little lace and demanding attention it’s simply stunning!

found at Freshly Found

The bride here has her protea accented with some greenery, which gives it an untamed look.  I love this for a country wedding and think it’s paired perfectly with the bridesmaid’s bouquet.

Usually you see King protea accented with some shades of pink, but here is a lovely bouquet paired with yellow roses.

Seriously, who will forget these bouquets?  They are magnificent and memorable.  I just can’t get enough!!

found at Cap Classique

King protea makes for a great ring shot!!

Be sure to check out Grey Likes Weddings to see the rest of the images from this wedding where the bridesmaids carried a King protea.

Isn’t this gorgeous!?  If you don’t want to carry protea, they make beautiful centerpieces.

I LOVE the look of the single King protea in a vase.  It adds enough drama to the table that everything else can be kept simple!

Flower flavor – Frangipani

February 17, 2011

I want to go to a beach wedding sooooooo bad.  I have never been, have yet to be invited to, and will just hope that someday I receive a beachy wedding invitation!  Until then, I’ll dream of what it will be like.

I imagine that there will be frangipanis (aka plumerias).  They just scream “beach wedding”! I think they are beautiful flowers for a summer wedding and a must-have for one in the sand.

Isn’t plumeria gorgeous and exotic!?

Flower flavor: Amaryllis

February 10, 2011

Ahh… the amaryllis, or more risquely known as the “naked lady”.  They are gorgeous, bold and a popular choice among brides in the winter months.  They come in a variety of colors and look how lovely they are….

What a beautiful bouquet of white amaryllis and freesia.  So crisp and clean.  I instantly fell in love with the florals then noticed the lovely wrapped stem.  The broach is a touch that I find extremely charming.

Oohh.. red amaryllis and feathers.  Very chic.

I am in love with this one.  Amaryllis, cymbidiums and dusty miller make for one stunning bouquet.
This bouquet is a show stopper.  Mocca amaryllis, hypericum berries,  roses, scabiosa pods, berzelia and  pheasant feathers make a big statement.

Amaryllis… you are beautiful in a bouquet but just as stunning as a centerpiece.

Flower flavor: calla lilies

January 27, 2011

Calla lily means “magnificent beauty”, which I find very suitable.  That’s exactly what they are… magnificent and beautiful!   I have been a huge fan of these flowers for as long as I can remember.  I find their clean lines and simplicity perfection.  They are striking and a classic choice for wedding use.

Calla lilies make such a statement themselves that they are often not paired with any other flower.  Here is a gorgeous bridal bouquet consisting of nothing but gorgeous white callas.  Found at The Knot.

The color of these mini callas is so rich.  It’s called rust and is a perfect summer wedding option.  The lily grass added here gives lovely depth and texture to the beautiful bouquet.  Found at Wedding Flowers.

This is absolutely stunning.  It is an arrangement of eggplant  roses, mini eggplant and burnt orange calla lilies, green cymbidium orchids and grass loops.  I found this beauty at Sharon Nagassar designs.

This bouquet contains orange callas, Leonidis roses, red roses, and red hypericum. What a gorgeous group of flowers. What’s not to love?  Found at Wedding Flowers and Reception Ideas.

Here is a beautiful bouquet of plum and gold calla lilies with touches of lilac.    I love the rich hue and think the texture is divine!  Found at The Delighted Eye.

If you are looking for an arm bouquet calla lilies are the way to go.  Their clean lines look lovely and you only need to carry a few.  Here are a few white callas with some pink gerbera daisies.  Found at flickr.

Calla lilies also look amazing in a cascading bouquet.  Here is a pretty arrangement of Picasso calla lilies, amnesia roses and lovely foliage.  I can’t keep my eyes off of it!  Found at Kathleens Florist.

Not only do calla lilies make perfect bouquets but look how handsome they can look sitting on a lapel.  All you need is one and voila… a lovely boutonniere!  I think they look very classy and you’re not putting froofy and poofy on your guy.  I adore a calla bout!  Found at Flower Market Blooms.

Pretty and pink… to me, this is perfection.  A mixture of  pink mini calla lilies, mini gerbera daisies and roses with green lily grass and hypericum accents.  I think I’m in love.  Found at Stadium Flowers.

If deep and dark is your thing this is perfect for you.  Here is an elegant arrangement of blood red roses, black calla lilies, fern curls and black feathers.  Found at Bouquet Bridal.

This lush bouquet is a mixture of calla lilies, roses, feather celosia, and freesia.  It’s a great spring wedding option and is such a pretty pop of color. Found at The Knot.

This is one of the prettiest bouquets I have seen in a while.  It is a stunning mix of  bright yellow mini calla lilies, orange sunspot orchids and fern curls.  I mean, come on… who wouldn’t want this beauty accessorizing their wedding day? I know I would!!  Found at Stadium Flowers.

September 22, 2009

This style is not for everyone but I think if you can pull it off these flowers could be amazing.  Princess Lasertron works with you to get exactly what you are looking for.  I have seen her feature flowers that range from simple to incredible; these have to be the talk of the wedding.
